High School Online
Thanks to modern technology, students are now able to receive their secondary education through an online high school. Students interested in an online high school can complete their entire secondary education, grades 9 through 12, all online from the comfort of their own home. Students are in control of their education where they can set the learning pace and determine which classes are a better fit for their overall educational goals.
An online high school learning environment is just like the traditional high school experience except of work assignment, tests and quizzes, group projects, and teacher Q&A sessions will be conducted online. There are no distractions or obstacles, so students have the opportunity to learn in a supportive learning environment.
Many high school online programs enable their students to attend their courses at anytime. Students have full access to their course work, material, and lectures online, which makes it easy and convenient for students to get a solid education. Students can also work at their own pace, so they can fully understand the learning material before moving on. Most online high schools offer faculty that can answer any questions that the student may have regarding a particular subject material.
Before enrolling in an online high school, make sure the school is fully accredited with the governing online education council. Accreditation is a validation process by which schools are evaluated against established standards to ensure a high level of educational quality. It is typically accomplished through a peer-review process in which faculty from accredited institutions help to conduct evaluations of either new non-accredited institutions or accredited institutions seeking renewal. The standards used to conduct these evaluations vary but in general they assess:
+ the institution's mission
+ goals and objectives
+ resources and resource allocation
+ student admission requirements
+ student support services and the quality of the faculty
+ Educational offerings.
An online high school should be accredited by at least one of the accreditation boards listed on the US Department of Education national and regional accrediting agencies. Accrediting agencies that are responsible for online high school accreditation have the same high standards as other high schools, colleges and universities.
To determine whether or not an online school is regionally accredited, find out which state the online program is located then look to see what regional agency grants accreditation to schools in that state.
Itís important to note that it takes a self-motivating student to succeed in an online high school environment. There are no teachers that push you to complete your homework assignments and there isnít an attendance office making sure your attending school. Students that can push themselves to complete their course material and study on their own time will find the most success in an online high school. Students should also have a good reading comprehension skills since much of the curriculum will be delivered through reading.
